Pennard Plants at RHS Chelsea 2018

I was lucky to be able to attend Chelsea on Monday before members and the public gained access. There were some stunning gardens as usual, but its the smaller exhibits that tend to catch my eye, especially ones with edibles! The Pennard Plant’s stand titled The Writer’s Retreat was inspired by the books of Mark Diacona (www.otterfarm.co.uk). I am somewhat biased re Pennard Plants as I buy a lot of seed and plants from them during the year and have attended one of their excellent pruning courses. The stand was delightful gaining a silver gilt medal. Features included a Shepherd’s Hut from Riverside, Alitex greenhouse, some delightful wire sculptures of poultry and loads of planting, including a wild flower meadow with ragged robin (its in flower on our farm too), containers of mixed salad leaves, tomatoes including a new blight resistant variety  from Burpee’s Seeds,  edible flowers including borage, marigold and nasturtians to name but a few.
